Watching the Alpha Capricornids in 2000
The shower is active for weeks, but rates climb sharply in the day or two around the peak. Watch on the night of and the nights on either side, ideally from late evening to the early hours, when the radiant is highest. Dark skies: the Moon will hardly interfere. Get away from streetlights, lie back, and let your eyes adapt for twenty minutes; no telescope or binoculars needed, since meteors streak across a wide patch of sky.
