No New Moon in February 2033
A February without a new moon
New moons repeat every 29.53 days, longer than February. When a new moon lands on January 31 the next one falls on March 1 or 2, skipping February entirely. It happens about every 19 years.
What to do with the dark nights
With the Moon out of the sky, February's moonless window is the month's best chance for the Milky Way, faint galaxies and nebulae, and any meteor shower that falls inside it. The evenings just after new moon add a bonus: a thin young crescent low in the west after sunset, often with earthshine glowing on its dark side.
